The game basketball has been a symbol of America in terms of influence in the sports scene. This Canadian-invented game had been owned and patented by the Americans as they founded the world famous league the National Basketball Association or the NBA. Throughout the years, the evolution of how the game is being played has been defined by talents, skills and influences of famous players who really love the game.
The ‘Slam Dunk’
One of the most sought after moments watching NBA is when players ‘stuff’ the ball into the rim with rim-rattling momentum which is simply the ‘dunk’. His ‘Airness’ Michael Jordan was able to revolutionized dunking into an art. Dunking requires elevation, speed, quickness, timing and the most important key in doing this is the impact. If a player during a fast break, gains thrust and sees the lane free, expect a wonderful dunk and an ecstatic fans would be on their feet. To the fans delight, the ‘highlight’ would be replayed for total satisfaction. Dunking is one of the one the exciting factors of the game but winning the basketball match means everything. Winning can only be achieved through teamwork. It is always a ‘we won’ not a ‘I won’!
The pleasure of dunking goes to the fans but the pressure and the beating goes to the backboard. Some players have hefty sizes and they tend ‘to bully’ small sized players in the hard court. These big guys really dominate the game sometimes because of their weight, as they dunk, can shatter backboards. National Basketball Association standard backboards have seventy-two (72) inches or six (6) feet in terms of its width and almost three (3) and a half feet or forty-two (42) inches in height. The inside rectangle has two feet broad and the tallness is one and a half feet. The usual white boarder or marking is usually two inches wide. In addition, the rim or the ring has eighteen inches in diameter-definitely no excuse to miss the hoop.
Basketball is a game loved by fans all over the world. The National Basketball Association or NBA was able to showcase the best of the best amongst players in terms professional basketball. Practice definitely makes improvement. Being a basketball ‘superstar’ is not possible without determination and willingness to get better and elevate ones own game. The first requirement to achieve ones goal is to make sure that one without doubt, is to love the game.
